Classes are very busy with their various activities. Today, my focus is on the first grade.
One main objective of first grade P.E. is to help students become better at ball-handling and manipulative activities. Most sports utilize some type of ball in the game play, so it is very important that children are comfortable using different types of balls in various ways. One of the ways this is done, is by having the children run through a circuit of different types of ball activities during a class period. I have included some pictures of a class involved in one of these circuits. Each activity gives the children instant feedback on how well they are doing and allows them to watch others and learn different techniques from them. The kids get very excited when they can finish a whole round cleanly.

Running the train down the track.

I was glad to see all the lower school parents who braved the physical education portion of Parent Night last week. I hope that you gained a better understanding of the program. I wanted to reiterate that anyone with questions should feel free to call me at extension “25″. Thank you for coming!

On my last blog, I mentioned that both varsity volleyball and girls’ lacrosse were undefeated last year. I was not able to include the volleyball team photo at that time, so I want to recognize them now. One of the teams they played last year was a high school team, and they still beat them, to remain undefeated for the season. Here is a photo of both the varsity and junior varsity volleyball teams.

Welcome back everyone, and greetings to our new families!
I hope you all had a fun and active summer vacation. I look forward to seeing all of you. This year, my teaching assignment has changed slightly. I will be teaching P.E. to grades K-3, 6, and 8 this year, while my coworker, Nigel Pink, will be teaching 4th, 5th, and 7th grades. I will also be working with the Pre-K once a week.
For the first few weeks, my younger charges will be exploring movement concepts and learning beginning motor skills, while older classes will be learning soccer, flag football, or Ultimate Frisbee.
Although I don’t coach in the fall, I look forward to coaching the volleyball and girls’ lacrosse teams later in the year. Both teams were undefeated in their seasons last year, and I know they are excited about challenging themselves to repeat their successes. I am including a photo of our amazing lacrosse team. They may have played with a minimum of players, but they also played with a maximum of heart!
